From the May 23, 2001 minutes of the Board Meeting of the Fairfax County Park Authority:
[The] Fairfax County Park Authority and the Department of Community and Recreation (CRS) are teaming up for the first time this year to present Start Summer with a Blast at the 2001 Fairfax Fair. At each side of the entrance to the tent, two life-size rockets labeled with each agency’s name will greet visitors. The rest of the tent will be decorated with rockets, stars and planets in an overall outer space theme. Featured activities for children will include softplay tumbling, Lego Land, face painting stations, puzzles, and a build a necklace station. The information booth will be giving away Parktakes, recreation package information, brochures, giveaway toys, pencils and stickers to promote our leisure and recreational activities. There will also be a video loop continuously playing featuring Park Authority and CRS programs and services.
The Centex Construction Company, as reported by Kevin Loch in the description of one of his entries to the 2001 First Annual Town Building Contest, sponsored the play area supplied with LEGO® elements at the Fairfax County Fair. A few members of WAMALUG joined employees of the Outlet in manning the tables.
