Wamalug was part of an event in which our participation was billed as “Meet Modelmakers: LEGO Models of Museum Artifacts/Meet local LEGO User Groups and chat with them about their model making process. See our museum artifacts in LEGO form!”

Visitors to our part of the display enjoyed, yes, models of artifacts in the museum‘s collection and other models more or less inspired by actual aircraft, in a range from John’s collection of historic single-occupancy aircraft, Josh’s Batman comic inspired aircraft, Constantine’s vintage helicopters, to Magnus’ G.I.JOE collection.

Visitors to the event were also able to meet James Beute and see a model of the USS Langley aircraft carrier, watch a 12-foot tall model of the Saturn V rocket being built by Scott Bowman of ideaBRICKworks, meet Lia Chan and watch her demonstrate a motorized model of the Kennedy Space Center’s Launch Pad 39A, and design within constraint with ideaBRICKworks and Charm City LUG, among other aviation- and rocketry-related activities.

Wamalug was joined by Esther Nasjleti of NOVALUG, who displayed a microscale landscape with a passenger aircraft observing from above the clouds. Additional creation by Dan Rubin. John printed the tent cards. Josh was our coordinator for participating in the event, thanks also to Violet and the staff and volunteers at the venue.
